See The World

Last month, I was reading an article about traveling for Labor Day. What struck me the most in the article was the fact that less than 10% of the population traveled this past Labor Day because of two main concerns: high costs and lack of time.

I remember what it was like to not have the ability to travel when and where I wanted. The article brought back memories of when I was a teacher with a set schedule and very little disposable income.

At that time, I realized Primerica was the perfect opportunity for me because of the flexibility. I wanted to set my own hours, spend more time with my kids, and be able to take trips whenever I wanted. Knowing I could be my own boss, work my own hours AND have unlimited income potential was so incredible. It offered me that reassurance and peace of mind that I’d been missing as on my teacher’s salary.

There are so many reasons why I’m thankful that I took advantage of the Primerica opportunity – not the least of which is that fact that I’m able to travel whenever and wherever I want. There’s nothing that compares to that kind of flexibility!

Build It. Live It.

Primerica’s 2013 Convention recently ended, but there’s no sign of the momentum slowing down now that everyone is home. I really love the theme moving forward – “Build It. Live It.”

It’s easy to go to an event like Convention and leave inspired, fired up and excited about the future. It’s even easier to talk about all the things you’re going to do and all the ways you’re going to change the world. But, in the words of company founder Art Williams, “Just do it.”

Art’s words are true for every aspect of life, not just the Primerica business opportunity. It’s one thing to talk about saving for the future and becoming financially independent. It’s another thing to actually do it.

I’ve been challenged recently to think about the “Live It” half of that phrase. What are the things in your life that you want to accomplish? What are the goals you have yet to reach? And how can you start living it and making it happen TODAY?

That’s the key. Once you decide, you’ve got to put it into motion. Change requires action, and the longer you wait the harder it is to change. There’s no time like the present. Get out there and DO IT!

Young Adults In Need

CNN Money recently published an article that claims that young adults are now too broke to get most loans. The claim was based on a study that reveals young adults are in less debt than they were a decade ago, but that lack of debt is indicative of economic struggle.

Instead of graduating from college and buying a home within a few years, many young adults are moving home, working part-time jobs and struggling to make ends meet.

According to the article,

[…] their shaky economic foundations either prevent them from qualifying for a loan or even thinking about applying for one, according to those studying the trend (CNN Money, 2/13).

The article even mentions the fact that the only debt on the rise for young adults is student loans. It has jumped from a third of young households with outstanding student debt in 2007 to around 40% in 2010.

One quote in the article states that “[y]oung people have less debt because they are less likely to live the American Dream” (CNN Money, 2/13). It then went on to discuss young adult job insecurity and high unemployment rates.

I found the article fascinating because it was more evidence to me that the Primerica opportunity really could be the answer so many young adults are looking for at this time. It’s through Primerica that I learned to dream bigger! I finally had freedom from a job and a boss. This really is a great time for young adults to join the business and discover the freedom this company offers!

The Way Out

If you want to get fired up about what Primerica is doing to help Main Street families, just watch this short video. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded of what I love about this company! We really are out there trying to right a wrong. It’s the greatest feeling in the world to get up every morning and know that I get to make a difference.

What’s In Your Wallet?

Are your receipts, rewards cards and cash practically falling out of your wallet? Or do you have the minimum amount of stuff tucked away in there?

I try to keep a balance. I hate when it’s stuffed with receipts, and I can’t find what I need. But I also get frustrated when I empty too much out, and it doesn’t have what I need when I need it.

A Yahoo! Finance article suggests that there are six things you should always keep in your wallet: basic contact information, business cards, cash, plastic, government I.D. and any insurance cards.

Contact information is an obvious one, but it’s something I’ve never thought to include. My license reveals my name, but if my wallet is lost there isn’t a number inside to give someone the opportunity to find me. I’d also never considered how helpful it would be to have emergency contact information in there, too.

As anyone in Primerica knows, you always want to have a business card handy. Our business is built on relationships, and you never know who you’ll meet while you’re out running errands, getting lunch or even playing golf.

Almost no one carries cash anymore, but it’s always important to keep a little in there in case of an emergency.

Government I.D. and insurance cards are the two things I don’t need to be reminded to carry. I’d never go anywhere without both in my wallet!

Is there anything you think the author forgot? And do you have any great tips to help keep your wallet from bursting at the seams?

The Future’s Looking Bright

It feels like 2012 just started, so I could hardly believe it when I saw this video previewing what’s in store for Primerica in 2013. Just watching this short clip has me fired up about our future.

Not only are we going back to Boca for our February incentive trip, but Convention and the brand-new international headquarters are also coming up. They’ll both be here before you know it!

Primerica has an awesome future, and it’s getting brighter every day.

What coming attraction are you most excited about in 2013?

From Wall Street to Main Street

Everywhere I look, I’m confronted with evidence that Wall Street isn’t necessarily focused on the problems faced by Main Street families.

It was only last September that banks wanted to charge a monthly fee for the use of debit card. Many banks backed down after public backlash, but that hasn’t stopped them from looking for other ways to charge more. A story in the news recently claimed that bank charges for overdrafts are on the rise. Not only that, but student loans have soared 275% over the past decade.

Couple all this with the fact that a recent Federal Reserve report indicates that Americans have seen their wealth plummet 40 percent from 2007 to 2010. That’s a pretty significant change!

With everything going on in our economy right now, it can be easy to feel hopeless and lost. This financial crisis has forced people to focus on keeping their household afloat – and many neglect thinking about their retirement!

It was so reassuring for me to read a recent interview with Primerica’s co-CEO John Addison. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution spoke with him about our mission, and he affirmed how passionate Primerica is about Main Street families. I am so thankful that I’m with a company that cares about and wants to fix the problems faced by the people who’ve been hit the hardest by this economy.

I love getting to help families achieve freedom! There is no greater feeling than helping someone move towards financial independence.

Get Plugged In

While browsing the website for my local Chattanooga TV station,, I came across an article about the top five qualities of remarkable bosses. I’m still amazed that so many people have to spend so much of their lives answering to a boss. One of the main reasons I was drawn to the Primerica opportunity was the fact that you got to be your own boss. It’s a concept that has completely changed my life! The article did remind me, however, of what it takes to be a respected and admirable leader.

I’ve always enjoyed learning and reading about leadership. As someone in a position of authority, I think it’s incredibly important to continue growing and developing as a leader. But I also think it’s vital for people who aren’t necessarily leaders yet but want to become one. Just like anything else, it takes training and developing to become a great leader. You aren’t just born with the skills needed to lead a team. It takes work!

There is such an incredible community within the Primerica family. I am constantly impressed with the resources available for people who are just joining the business opportunity, whether full-time or part-time, as well as people who’ve been here for years. If you want to be the best, there are resources and tools available for every step along the way.

My favorite tip from the article was the first, “Develop every employee.” The author highlights how vital great employees are to the success of any business. One of the big reasons so many people aren’t happy in their job is because of their position as an employee. They don’t feel challenged by their work environment. I think that one of the best things about the Primerica opportunity is that you’re not an employee. You don’t have to punch the clock or answer to anyone else.

As a leader in Primerica, however, you can train and mentor the people that are a part of your business. If you develop the skills of your team, your business will have a better shot at success. In order for your business to achieve more, you’ve got to provide the training and mentoring. Develop the skills of your team, and achieving goals is the outcome.

That’s why I mention all the resources available within Primerica. Get plugged in to your team and to all the training resources available. The tools will be incredibly helpful to developing your team. As a new representative, the resources will set you on the path to success.

Don’t wait to get plugged in. It’s the best thing you can do for your business!

How Can You Help?

One of the reasons I was first drawn to Primerica was the fact that I was going to be able to help people. I was working nights and weekends to learn the basics of financial services, and my eyes were completely opened to the facts about managing my money. It wasn’t long before I realized that almost all of the people I knew didn’t know how to make their money work for them.

Primerica became a way for me to educate people. The thing I love about the education I received at Primerica is the fact that it completely changed my future. Looking back, I realized how clueless I was about my money before I started Primerica.

When you discover something that changes your life, you want to share that with other people. That’s a huge reason why I became so passionate about introducing other people to Primerica. I honestly wanted to help other people achieve financial independence.

We often focus on ourselves. It’s just human nature. But I encourage you to take a step back and ask yourself, “How can I help someone else?” If you go through every day looking for ways to make a difference, I think you’ll be amazed at all the opportunities you can find. Primerica really opened my eyes to all the ways I could help others.

I feel so blessed that today, due to the rewards of my business, I can really make a difference in people’s lives. That’s what I believe is really important. What is wealth if you can’t use it to help people?

The best thing is that it doesn’t need to be a financial donation. Volunteering is one of the best ways to help. Donating your time often means even more to an organization or a person than writing a check.

Find a way you can help and go do it!
